Shakira Trabelsi

My research focuses on investigating the presence of pharmaceutical contaminants in the marine environment and the subsequent exposure to fish species, focusing on Redfish (Sciaenops ocellatus) throughout Florida. I will be determining the extent of pharmaceuticals the redfish are exposed to, and assessing their health using a blood panel. The results will help identify needed improvements in wastewater treatment, determine if these contaminants are deteriorating the health of species that are exposed, and inform the public of the relative threat of exposure to pharmaceutical contaminants from consumption of recreational fish species.
