I was born and raised in Colorado, but due to my passion for the outdoors and the ocean I moved to the island of Hawai'i to become a marine scientist at the University of Hawaiʻi at Hilo. Under the CREST mentorship of Drs. Michael Ross and Danielle Ogurcak, I looked at the role of mangroves as environmental filters, by analyzing mangrove leaves for metals to see if they were absorbing contaminants before they make it to the ocean.
