I am currently pursuing my PhD with a focus on brevetoxins, potent neurotoxins produced by Karenia brevis during Florida Red Tide blooms. My research is driven by an interest in identifying compounds capable of mitigating the neurotoxic impacts of brevetoxins, particularly on voltage-gated sodium channels. My project focus on the synthesis and further assessment of potential antitoxins to establish their ability to inhibit toxin binding to voltage-gated sodium channels and diminish overall toxicity.
